New Service! CTC Sign Management System

Historically, highway signs have been required to be manufactured with a certain level of nighttime visibility, or “Retroreflectivity.”  The 2009 MUTCD now requires all signs to be maintained at a certain level of retroreflectivity, based upon the colors of the materials used.  The first deadline is January 22, 2012.

Our ServicesDo you have a transportation issue? Ask us!

At Commonwealth Transportation Consultants, we offer a variety of services to meet your surface transportation needs.
Accident Reconstruction
Careful analysis of available evidence and the proper application of Newtonian physics are crucial to learning the truth of how traffic accidents occur. Our analysts have years of experience reconstructing thousands of traffic crashes. Employing the latest technologies, with traditional principles and integrity, we find answers to difficult questions. We have also conducted crash tests to obtain data, test published theories, and provide education.
Commercial Vehicles Operations Training
Vehicle equipment, driver hours of service, hazardous materials transportation, special hauling permits, and load securement, are just a few of the issues of motor carriers. Our staff have trained hundreds of police officers and CV inspectors in enforcement of these issues. From safety programs to oversight, our goal is the prevention of CV crashes and incidents. Traffic Surveys
Traffic surveys provide Average Daily Traffic counts, or binned data as to vehicle classification, speed and date/time in a binned format. Such data is valuable to traffic engineers, police, developers and citizen groups seeking changes in traffic patterns, speed limits or traffic control devices.
Forensic Mapping
Scaled maps of incident scenes, construction zones, and existing structures serve as a long-term record of the physical nature of a specific site at a particular moment in time. Three dimensional plots and vertical maps also assist in evaluating an event or planning changes in the physical plant.
Child Passenger Safety
Over 85% of child safety seats are used improperly. Providing appropriate education and information to parents/caregivers is essential to protecting our most precious cargo. Proper training of Child Passenger Safety Technicians is an essential element in meeting this goal.
Vehicle Electronic Data
Many vehicles currently manufactured utilize computer technology to enhance the performance of occupant protection systems, or power train efficiency and output. Some such systems retain information beneficial to those investigating traffic accidents and highway incidents.
HVEDR
In October, 2009, Commonwealth Transportation Consultants signed a contract with the University of Tulsa's Continuing Engineering and Science Education division to create and teach the first-ever general training class on HVEDR data retrieval and analysis. During the fall of 2012, discussions with Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety culminated in the class being added to the NUCPS roster. The class is a joint effort between Commonwealth Transportation Consultants, Messerschmidt Safety Consulting, and the NUCPS.
